The problem

A leading energy distribution company had significant vulnerabilities in their physical security that, if exploited, could have resulted in disruption to energy supply to a large proportion of the UK.

Solution and Implementation

Avella specialists undertook a physical security assessment of the existing security controls protecting four key energy distribution sites. Assessments were made against International Standards and National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) guidelines, identifying any gaps or shortfalls in their security posture.

Results

As a result of our engagement, a prioritised list of actionable recommendations was produced to highlight how existing security measures could be enhanced, and how critical and systemic vulnerabilities could be mitigated.  The comprehensive report provided key shortcomings in the security controls, policies and frameworks.

Following the report, a thorough and detailed physical security remediation plan began. This included enhanced control improvement and preparedness enhancements which served to protect the distribution sites against the most prevalent identified threats thereby minimising degradation of service to critical national infrastructure. It also provided key shortcomings in the security controls, policies and frameworks.
